The new year has kicked off the beginning of some physical improvements coming to Cummings Research Park. According to the 2016 CRP Master Plan, the commercial node known as the Bradford/Wynn node will be the first to see new, mixed-use commercial development. The old Catholic High School was torn down this week, and has plans for a multi-story commercial building. If you refer back to the master plan, you’ll see that the ground floor of any commercial developments in the Park must be reserved for retail/hospitality spaces. So with that in mind, we know the ground floor will be retail/restaurant/cafe space, and we know that there is an active search for vendors of the new development happening now. Right across Bradford Drive will be the new campus of the Alabama Cyber School of Technology and Engineering (ACSTE). The two developments will be connected to each other and surrounding areas of CRP East by existing (but new) bike lanes, intersection improvements and future sidewalks. There’s no name for this new development yet, but a groundbreaking and more announcements on the full commercial plan for the site is planned for this Spring.
